Default New music video & melodeath project

Hey all! I've been a little flakey here lately, mostly because I've been busy finishing up a new album for my project called Senescere. It was a solo thing a few years back but I put a band together for the new heavy material. It's sort of melodic death metal with some progressive and rock vibes here and there. Been working on it pretty much non-stop the past 3 years. I know it might not be everyone's style here but I hope you dig it.

Check out the video if you like:

The full album is done and will be out in a few months. For now I'll be releasing each song one by one to help promote and try to build up a small audience. Pretty much starting from scratch with this!

I like it a lot. Has a real In Mourning/Insomnium vibe going. Good stuff, I'll buy it when it comes out.

How long did that video take to film? Is it snowing up there already?

Thanks guys! Negative Ben, we filmed the snow scenes back in February haha. I initially wanted this stuff out in spring or summer this year, but it took a few extra months with mixing and revisions and finishing a few production things.

I'm not a fan of the deep voice type of singing but musically this is excellent work in my opinion.

When you write this type of music how do you approach it....Is it all in the same key?

    Which scales are you using?

Hey thanks man, yeah it's not everyone's preferred style of vocals but I really appreciate you checking it out! Honestly I don't know scales or modes or any real theory, I just write what feels good and what takes the song in the direction I'm hearing in my head. Sorry if that's not really an interesting answer but I've never been good at talking about writing haha. But I can talk about how I generally approach it.

I find a lot of times I write melodies and single note ideas first, and then I build the rhythms underneath. Like for the intro / main riff I had the notey melodic part first, then added the chords underneath to thicken it up, and then I added a harmony to it for some extra texture. For the soft lead in the middle of the song I had the lead melody first, then figured out chords and notes underneath. For the ending of the song I had the octave riff melody first, and the chunky power chord part that happens in between the octaves was a separate riff idea that worked well with it. Then it's just a matter of arranging the ideas in an order and pattern that feels rght.

The demo song stage takes the longest and goes through lots of little revisions until I hone in on something that I think is pretty solid. And usually during the final recordings new ideas will pop up to help flesh it out and refine the riffs.

Thanks! I used my G&Ls for the entire album, this white one is what I used on this particular song too.
