Default The top guitars. Anybody have one?

Ill start off by saying im not looking for the “best” sounding guitar in the world. As long as it feels alright, changing pickups and amps will get the sound where it needs to be for me. Im a huge fan of old punk and joan jett and want a double cutaway lpj. Anybody own a guitar from the top guitars? Seems like they might be alright. Talk me out of buying this thing.

Know any companies that might make a lpj for under 1000?

Don't know anything about Top but if you want a Less Paul Junior style you should check out Gordon Smith. They've been doing guitars styled after that since the 70s. I've wanted one for years, I think I'm getting close to ordering but can't decide what spec or model.

Here's a lefty in the UK for under $800 USD:
    https://rguitars.co.uk/products/gord...ny-left-handed

    https://www.gordonsmithguitars.com/p...egory/guitars/

If you keep the specs simple on the GS1 or GS2 you can easily keep it under $1k. They aren't 100% Gibson clones but in style it's the same ballpark, and I imagine you could spec a P90 instead of a humbucker if you wanted.

Edit: I remember I've mentioned Gordon Smith recently on another LPJ post and if it was yours sorry lol. I'm just sort of obsessed with them right now for some reason and I feel like they aren't very well known.

Agile probably would make a custom shop for you for under that. My custom shop LP from them is really good.

Seems like a middle-man company for Rare Electric Guitars.

From their FAQ page: "For United States: 5 – 7 Business days from China to United States."

    Rare Electric Guitars: http://www.rareelectricguitars.com

REG uses similar parts as Top Guitars uses, also.

Their website also mentions that they import from South Korea, so depending on the build they might also contract from World Musical Instrument Co., Ltd..

Agile Guitars (Rondo Music) will be your best best for a semi-custom/custom shop LPJ.

I want to say that Chris (LITM) bought one a while ago and was super impressed by it, and having an ebony fretboard, rather than the listed Indian rosewood fretboard on the spec sheet.

For anyone wondering, i went with gordon smith. They look like they are great guitars based off of many great reviews. Here is the spec list/pricing from the man himself.

    GS1 £600.00
    Standard thickness (38mm)
    Left handed
    Mahogany body £55.00
    Mahogany neck £45.00
    Thin profile neck
    Ebony fretboard £70.00
    Vintage white £50.00
    Satin finish
    Black headstock
    BWB scratchplate
    Humbucker pick up
    Tone, Volume, Kill switch controls
Input jack on the front of the guitar
    Nickle fretwire
    Silver hardware
    18:1 deluxe tuners £20.00
    Bar bridge
    Custom hardcase £35.00

    Total- £875.00 + shipping

A couple of things that I would recommend. You could go for a thicker body, 44mm like the GS1000. This is would be an extra £45.00. I have quoted here for a bar bridge (the 2nd photo you have sent through) I would recommend going for a tunomatic (1st picture you have sent through) for better intonation. This would be an extra £30.00. The extras would bring the total to £950.00 + shipping.

Oh sweet, I'm really excited to see how that turns out if you get it! I've also only heard good things, especially since they've had new management. The old ones could be a little hit or miss back in the day, but they're now owned by Auden Guitars and it seems they've really stepped up their game the past couple years.

Yeah they come standard with the traditional wrap around bar bridge. I would probably order a TOM myself but the bar could be upgraded with an adjustable one down the road.
