    Default Your favorite guitar tone.

    My new favorite guitar tone:

I have just become enamoured with Dimebag's tone on this album, despite the fact that I have loved this album for 20 years. No hiss, no fizz, no fuzz, no mud. 100% clarity. 100% grind. Who needs chunk?

There's no way you're getting that tone without a life's wages in recording gear and the Bill Gates of recording engineers behind you.

    What's your favorite guitar tone?

Ben, Joe tells me you make distortion pedals. If you can make a pedal that makes my guitar sound like The Great Southern Trendkill, I will kiss you on the mouth.

Oh, and by the way, the saying, "tone is all in the hands" is bull shit. You're not going to plug a Telecaster into a fucken Fender Twin and get Slipknot because you have "Mick Thomson" hands.

I can make a Pignose amp sound like a Randall SATAN on steroids.....it’s all in the hands buddy!!!

    I keed, I keed!!!!

Yes, I too have always loved Dime’s tone.....the cut is flawless. I love that he was so in love with Solid State, it is proof that Solid State can be dynamic and just as “alive” as tube. God bless Dimebag! By the way, I’ve got that Razorback listed for sale if you’re interested man!!!
Mustaine: He's brilliant; I love him. But then you see some guy like Bucketheadů Buckethead is probably twice as good a guitar player as me and Slash combined, and can stand having fried chicken rubbed up against his face all night for a couple of hours.

Solo tones on A Predator's Portrait by Soilwork.

Chris Amott's solo tone on Wages Of Sin. Really anything Chris Amott does.

Rhoads' live tone on the Tribute album.

Anything by Chris Poland in terms of being totally unique and identifiable. See: Peace Sells, his solo album Return To Metalopolis, anything by OHM.

Recently caught Cream's 2005 performance at RAH. I'm obsessed with EC's tone throughout and am working on getting the same tone from my Katana. Not quite there yet, but here ya go:

There is something that doesn't feel quite right when playing Pantera on a non-pointy guitar.
