I just paid $1200 for my Prestige. Not far off from these.

Check it out Chris, this confirms they are MIJ.
Mustaine: He's brilliant; I love him. But then you see some guy like Buckethead… Buckethead is probably twice as good a guitar player as me and Slash combined, and can stand having fried chicken rubbed up against his face all night for a couple of hours.

I paid $420 for my first MIJ 470L when it was on manager's special at GC and not only did it not come with a case, but they didn't even sell them with the fucking whammy bar, I had to order it from Ibanez for $35. It had a Japanese TRS, Japanese pickups, and Gotoh tuners. That guitar was $639 new in 2001, which adds up to $900 in today's money.

When I first saw the 1570, which replaced the 470, I was excited. When I played it though, I was disappointed. The neck profile was different and I prefer the TRS over the Edge (call me crazy, I don't care). The 1570 retailed for a little more than the 470 did, like 699 or something.

$1000 for a MIJ 550 with no case is completely fair, $1500 is a "wait 'till I find a used one" price.

$1000 for an Indo or Chinese guitar is highway fucking robbery, even if the girl at Sam Ash threw in a professional blowie.
I think you are spot on here...exactly what I was thinking as far as price points.

I'm going to require directions to your local Sam Ash.

I think the $1100-$1200 price is pretty much confirmed for us lefties. I just saw on AMS (American Musical) that the righties are going for $999.99.......considering the typical "lefty markup" I think it's safe to say $1100 or so is our established pricing ballpark.

I just PRAY that Ibanez doesn't pull a fuckin' "Nintendo" on us and make barely any to go around. The pricing doesn't seem so bad that it'll be out of reach for most of us that want one. I'm trying my best to get things setup so I can pull the trigger AS SOON as they are released.......but just in case I can't it would be nice if there were enough for us all.

So Japanese but not a Prestige? The price seems almost too good to be true. Other than the pickups any other idea how they are making them so cheap?

Well the fact that they're giving you a gig bag instead of a hard case probably cuts a bit more of the cost. I'd also say the fact that it's a solid color without any special top might help a bit too. Or maybe they realized they've been ripping people off for $1500+ for a guitar

I bet they mark up the price $100 for a bag they pay $10 a unit to make.

FYI the V7/S1/V8 pickups aren't cheap crap, they're on par with SD or DiMarzio.

The Jem Jr. pickups on the other hand...
